Mequoda Daily's Favorite Blogs, Tools and Research of 2007

2007 was a great year for online publishing, and the digital world in general. Here are our favorite bits and pieces.

In light of the new year, we thought we'd give an ode to the Mequoda Daily works and research of 2007. It's been a long year for Mequoda, with one very exciting Mequoda Summit, half a dozen webinars and seminars, new books, and TONS of new research.

It's also been a great year for helpful online tools, so to start off, we'd like to recap on some of the wonderful tools we've discovered and have written an article or two about.

Best Online Publishing Tools of 2007:

  1. Wordtracker
Wordtracker helps website owners and search engine marketers identify keywords and phrases that are relevant to their or their client's business and most likely to be used as queries by search engine visitors.
  2. Compete
Compete.com is the only online competitive intelligence service that combines site and search analytics in one site to help you quickly master online marketing. With Compete.com, you can identify rival search marketing strategies to take your SEM and SEO efforts to the next level, and stay on top of rivals with site metrics and audience profiles.
  3. Yahoo! Site Explorer
Site Explorer allows you to explore all the web pages indexed by Yahoo! Search. View the most popular pages from any site, dive into a comprehensive site map, and find pages that link to that site or any page.
  4. Feedburner
Allows blog owners and podcasters the ability to manage their RSS feeds and track usage of their subscribers, amongst many, MANY other things. A must for any blog.
  5. Google Alerts
Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.
  6. Amazon's CreateSpace
Through Createspace, you can make your books, music and video available to millions of customers on Amazon.com, the CreateSpace Shop, and on your own website with no pre-built inventory.
  7. Adroll & Quantcast (tie)
    1. Adroll lets online publishers connect and "roll up" their ad space to form relevent packages of inventory that advertisers can buy, through a unique social network model.
    2. Quantcast is the only open internet ratings service. They provide advertisers with audience profiles for millions of websites and services. This is is useful for publishers because they are able to see as well as demonstrate the unique value of their audiences on a per-day basis whether they are looking to appeal to advertisers or not.
  8. Motoricerca's Keyword Density tool
This keyword density tool is an analyzer that calculates the keyword density for a web page, analyzing single keywords and keyphrases of two or three terms. The checker applies the keyword density formula taking in account many parameters, that you can manage with the following panel, and it produces a report with an analysis of frequency and density of main words and phrases of the submitted page.
  9. TubeMogul
Submit and track online video viewership trends and analytics on YouTube, MySpace, Google, Yahoo!, MetaCafe and Revver.
  10. BaseCamp
Basecamp is a web-based project management tool that lets you manage and track projects (or simply ideas) and quickly create client/project extranets as well as share to-do lists, calendars, message boards and storage space.

Although, this part was extremely hard, having to pick and choose from each category and narrow it down by month, I think we've come up with atleast a partial list of our favorite articles from 2007.

If you had a favorite article, please email Amanda MacArthur at amanda(at)mequoda(dot)com to let us know! We might just add a "Readers-Choice: Best Articles of 2007" section to the blog!
